Registration

Parents can register their children for classes and manage their account online by visiting our website www.dancingporthuron.com and accessing StudioPro. Register online through September 23. There is a one-time registration fee of $10 per student.

Late Registration: After September 23, parents must register their children for class in person at the front desk. Returning students are subject to a $20 late registration fee.

Class Placement: Students must be enrolled in StudioPro before attending a class. We will not allow drop-ins. Teachers will suggest an alternative if they feel the student does not suit the class. We reserve the right to place students based on their age, ability and dance experience.

Classes with less than 5 students may be combined into other classes, unless the parents and students agree to continue as a closed semi-private class.

Drop Class: If you wish to drop a class, please send us an e-mail. Missed classes are non-refundable.

Tuition and Bill Payment

Billing: Tuition will be billed in 2-50% charges. The first half is due by December 31. The remainder is due by May 17. Parents are encouraged to create their own payment schedule that works best for them.

Discount: Accounts in good standing on January 1 will receive 10% off their second tuition charge. If you would like to pay your entire tuition before January 1, take 5% off your full tuition.

Late Fee: A late fee (5% of the outstanding balance) will be posted on January 1 and May 18.

Payment: For your convenience, you can pay your tuition online with a credit card via Stripe in your StudioPro parent portal. Cash and check payments can also be mailed in or dropped off during regular business hours. Returned checks are subject to a $35 fee.

Class Eligibility: Accounts with an outstanding balance from last year are not eligible to enroll in competition classes, solos, duets or trios. If you have an outstanding balance, you are welcome to contact Laurie and Jessica about opportunities to work off debt. In some cases where the account is delinquent, the studio owners will require advanced payment for the full year's tuition in order to continue dancing. Delinquent accounts may also be sent to collections if repayment plans are not made and followed. When sending delinquent accounts to the credit bureau for collections, you will be charged a $50 non-refundable fee.

Costumes

Classes: Costume fees are included in your tuition.

Solo/Duo/Trio: Costume fees are NOT included in Solo/Duo/Trio tuition. If you are interested in ordering a costume from one of our catalogs, we will charge to your account the costume cost as well as any related taxes, shipping or return fees.

Costume Customizations: There will be fees associated with any costume customization service performed by staff. These services include, but are not limited to, costume design and construction, modification of costume, the addition of appliques, fabrics or straps, or rhinestone work. Please inquire at the front desk for price estimates.

Alterations: Although we try our best to keep our young dancer’s growing bodies in mind, please understand that all costumes are ordered from catalogs and may need some alterations upon arrival. It is the parent’s responsibility that the costume is ready by dress rehearsal. See the front desk to inquire about alteration needs for a small fee.

Classroom Etiquette & Rules

At The Dance Company Conservatory, we expect students to behave with a level of self-control and respect that is appropriate for their age. Students are expected to arrive on time, be properly attired and ready to learn.

Students will be verbally corrected or asked to sit out by the teacher or assistant when necessary. The student will be asked to leave the room if they use vulgar language, refuse to cooperate with the teacher, or become physically or verbally abusive.

Only registered students are permitted in the studio during class time, unless they have prior permission from the teacher.

Please do not interrupt class, except in the case of emergency. If you would like to arrange a time to talk with a teacher, please schedule an appointment with the front desk.

We pride ourselves in having great studio facilities. To help keep our dance rooms clean and well maintained, please:

-      No Food/Drink/Gum

-      No Street Shoes

-      Do not hang from ballet barres.

-      Do not touch the mirrors.

-      Do not sit on chairs, mats, props etc.

-      Check your tap shoes for loose screws.

-      No use of electronics during class, including smart watches.

Health, Safety, Waiver of Liability

In case of emergency, children will be treated at McLaren Port Huron Hospital unless otherwise noted on the Student's account online. The Dance Company Conservatory, Inc. does not carry health or dental insurance on students. You are responsible for the payment of all bills as a result of illness or injury. Students with allergies should carry an Epipen at all times in their dance bag.

  1. We expect parents to be vigilant regarding symptoms of illness and have a continued commitment to monitoring health. Please stay home if you have a temperature higher than 100.4 or have been exposed to an illness. Please contact the studio if a dancer will miss class.
  2. Students should continue to wash/sanitize their hands when entering and leaving the building.
  3. We would like to continue keeping our hallway and lobby free of congestion. We will continue leaving studio doors open to promote airflow through the building. Parents may periodically come and quietly observe parts of class from the viewing windows. However, we ask that you do not spend the entire class time in the building. If we find that the hallway has become overly crowded or distracting to the dancers and staff, we will ask that all parents wait outside.

Attendance

We expect every student to attend every class. If you/your child will be absent for any reason, please e-mail or call the studio as early as possible. We do not regularly monitor our studio social media accounts, so please e-mail or call. Students or parents should not contact the teachers directly. Students will not be refunded for missed class.

Attendance Policy for Performances: If a student misses more than 50% of classes in the two months before a performance, the teacher may require a private make-up lesson or may remove the student from said performance. Tuition and costumes are non-refundable. (Please note that upper-level ballet classes and competition classes have their own stricter attendance policy.)

Drop-Off/Pick-Up: We ask that parents drop off and pick up their students in a timely fashion, especially at the end of the night. Please contact the studio if you are running late.

Studio Closings

If the studio closes due to inclement weather, we will make an announcement on Facebook, Instagram Story and through E-Mail. The studio decides independently if we will open or not—we do not follow the schools.

Make-Ups: All classes include 1 snow-day. Recital class will be made up if more than 1 snow-day occur at the teacher’s discretion. Non-recital classes will not be made up.

Photo/Video Release

By registering for classes, you give The Dance Company Conservatory, Inc. permission to take photos or videos of you or your child while participating in studio activities for promotional purposes without remuneration in connection with studio publications, advertising, television and news coverage.

Private Lessons

Absences and Make-Up Lessons

Due to the high demand for private lessons, it will be difficult to provide a large number of make-up lessons. For this reason, we will be enacting the following policies:

  • If a teacher schedules a substitute teacher, the dancer must attend that class or it will not be made up.
  • If the dancer has an excessive number of absences, the studio reserves the right to not offer make-up lessons. Missed classes will not be refunded. (This does not apply to absences due to illness or those that are scheduled several weeks in advance.)
  • Make-up lessons are subject to the teacher’s availability. Please make yourself available when make-up times are offered.

Choreography and Performance

All choreography is owned by the teacher/choreographer. Dancers must receive express permission from the teacher/choreographer in order to perform private lesson choreography outside of any studio-sponsored events (including, but not limited to, school events, community events, competitions, pageants, festivals, auditions etc.) Dancers who are not in good standing on the competition team may not compete their private lesson choreography at any dance competition.

Expectations

  • Dancers should arrive early and warm-up before their private lesson.
  • Dancers must arrive to class prepared, having reviewed all choreography and corrections.
  • Parent accounts must be in good standing before the fall season.

Music and Costume

The teacher/choreographer has the final decision regarding music and costume. Solo/duo/trio tuition does not include a costume fee. Any costumes ordered by the studio will be charged to your account.

Competition Team

Attendance

  • Dancers are expected to attend all technique classes and rehearsals.
  • Dancers are typically allowed up to 3 absences per class throughout the season.
  • These absences must be reported via e-mail to porthurondanceco@gmail.com. Otherwise, they may be considered unexcused.
  • Dancers are not allowed to miss the week before competition weekend. This may result in not performing.
  • Special considerations may be made for dancers who are ill. This must be communicated to the studio.
  • Dancers who are injured are required to attend class and actively observe.
  • Dancers must attend all performances (competitions and recitals.)
  • Attendance issues will be handled on a case-by-case basis by the team directors and studio owners. Consequences to excessive absences may include: removal from the team, required paid make-up lessons, removal from a performance, etc.

Dress Code

  • SOLID black attire please - no loud logos, patterns and/or writing.
  • No baggy shirts, sweatshirts or sweatpants.
  • Hair must be pulled back into a slick, low bun.
  • Warm-ups may only be worn at the start of class.
  • No distracting jewelry/accessories. No watches.
  • The appropriate shoes for each class.

Professionalism

  • Dancers must come to class prepared, having reviewed all choreography and corrections/feedback from the previous weeks.
  • Dancers must conduct themselves professionally in and out of class. This includes working together to review/practice choreography, supporting each other and absolutely no bullying/fighting.
  • Dancers must be open-minded and fully committed to their choreography and performances.
  • Dancers must actively strive to participate in all studio events including recitals, master classes, intensives, studio parties, etc. Team dancers are expected to be role models for all dancers at the studio, which includes making all dancers (team and non-team) feel included, welcome and respected.
  • Dancers who compete dance with another studio/team are not eligible to join the DCC Competitive Team.

Costumes/Shoes/Tights

  • A base costume fee is included in tuition for competition classes.
  • If expenses exceed the costume fee, that cost will be charged to your StudioPro account. Should costume fees exceed our planned cost, you will be billed the difference up to $20 per costume. If the overage exceeds $20, we will seek parent approval. This may include: over-budget costumes, customizations (rhinestones/appliques), alterations, etc.
  • Dancers must provide their own undergarments, shoes and tights if they are required. Please check your email regularly for any updates regarding undergarments, shoes and tights.
  • Costume fees may be non-refundable if a dancer leaves/is removed from the team.
  • Costume Customization - Most competition group costumes will be rhinestoned. Each family is responsible to help rhinestone for 1 hour per costume you have; they may not necessarily be your child’s costume. Hours can be logged at the front desk during costume season (usually December-March).

Competition Entry Fees

  • Competition entry fees for group routines are included in tuition. This is an estimation. If entry fees exceed our projections, the remainder will be charged to your StudioPro account. Fees must be paid by December 1.
  • Competition entry fees may be non-refundable if a dancer leaves/is removed from the team.
  • Photo/Video Fees - 1) The studio will always purchase all group routine photos/videos. This cost will be billed to your account. 2) If a competition requires all dancers to purchase a photo/video package, this cost will be billed to your account.

Performance

  • Dancers must arrive at their scheduled time with hair and make-up ready. Dancers who arrive late may not be allowed to perform on stage.
  • Dancers and parents must be supportive of our dancers, as well as dancers from other studios. Absolutely no judgmental or negative talk about other studios, dancers or the competition staff.
  • As the dancers prepare to take the stage, it is important for the parents to give space for the dancers and teachers to focus. Please trust the teachers to make sure their hair, make-up and costume is ready for the stage.
  • Parents and dancers must respect all rules of competitions/performance venues. Parents are not permitted to go back-stage or in any teacher-only designated area.

Solos/Duos/Trios

  • In order to compete a solo/duo/trio, all dancers involved must be in good standing on the DCC competition team.

Recital Media Fee

In the event our videographer requires, we reserve the right to charge a mandatory media fee for a professional recording of our Spring Dance Concert in May. Should there be a media fee, it will be added to your account in the spring and would be due by May 19.
