Inclement Weather closings
If the studio closes due to inclement weather, we will make an announcement 1) on the website homepage, 2) by e-mail and 3) by text message alert. The Dance Company Conservatory generally closes when St. Clair County Community College cancels their evening classes.
If the studio closes for any reason, all recital classes will be scheduled a make-up at the teacher’s discretion. Some non-recital classes will NOT be scheduled a make-up, but can be made up by dropping in another day.
If you miss any non-recital class, please make-up by dropping into any Barre, Progressions or Acro class at your convenience.
Students are welcome to try any class free during the first week. Teachers will suggest an alternative if they feel the student does not suit the class. We reserve the right to place students according to their age, ability and dance experience.
Pointe Evaluations: Students wishing to be considered for pointe-work should attend regular ballet classes. The staff will let you know when they feel the student is strong enough to take on pointe work. Private classes may be required.
At The Dance Company Conservatory, we expect students to behave with a level of self-control and respect that is appropriate for their age. Students are expected to arrive on time, be properly attired and ready to learn.
Students will be verbally corrected or asked to sit out by the teacher or assistant when necessary. The student will be asked to leave the room if they use vulgar language, refuse to cooperate with the teacher, or become physically or verbally abusive.
Only registered students are permitted in the studio during class time, unless they have prior permission from the teacher. Parents and guests should watch from the hallway.
Please do not interrupt class, except in the case of emergency. If you would like to arrange a time to talk with a teacher, please schedule an appointment with the front desk.
We pride ourselves in having great studio facilities. To help keep our dance rooms clean and well maintained, please:
- No Food/Drink/Gum
- No Street Shoes
- Do not hang from ballet barres
- Do not touch the mirrors
- Do not sit on chairs, mats, props etc.
- Check your tap shoes for loose screws
- No use of electronics during class
We expect every student to attend every class. If you/your child will be absent for any reason, please e-mail or call the studio as early as possible. Students or parents should not contact the teachers directly. Students will not be refunded for missed class.
If a student misses more than 50% of classes in the two months before recital, the teacher may require a private make-up lesson or may remove the student from recital. Tuition is non-refundable.
Competition classes will have their own, stricter attendance policies.
We ask that parents drop off and pick up their students in a timely fashion, especially at the end of the night. Please contact the studio if you are running late.
By registering for classes, you give The Dance Company Conservatory, Inc. permission to take photos or videos of you or your child while participating in studio activities for promotional purposes without remuneration in connection with studio publications, advertising, television and news coverage.
Parents can register their children for classes and manage their account online at www.dancingporthuron.com. Register online from July 18 - September 30. There is a one-time registration fee of $10 per student.
Late Registration: Parents must register their children for class in person at the front desk. Returning students are subject to a $20 late registration fee.
Classes with less than 5 students will be combined into other classes, unless the parents and students agree to continue as a closed semi-private class.
Tuition will be billed in 2-50% charges. The first half is due by December 29, 2017. The remainder is due by May 31, 2018. Parents are encouraged to create their own payment schedule that works best for them.
Accounts in good standing on December 29, 2017 will receive 10% off their second tuition charge. If you would like to pay off your entire tuition before December 29, 2917, take 5% off your full tuition.
A late fee (5% of the outstanding balance) will be posted after any tuition due date (fall, spring and summer).
For your convenience, you can now pay your tuition online with a credit card via PayPal. Cash and check payments can also be mailed in or dropped off during regular business hours.
Returned checks are subject to a $35 fee.
Accounts with an outstanding balance from last year are not eligible to enroll in competition classes, semi-privates or privates. If you have an outstanding balance, you are welcome to contact Laurie and Jessica about opportunities to work off debt.
$100 Technique Classes: Dancers must be enrolled in another class to receive this discount. Otherwise the cost is $240. This rule does not apply to adults.
Costume fees are included in the tuition of all recital/competition classes on the schedule.
Costume fees are NOT included in private or semi-private classes tuition. If you are interested in ordering a costume from one of our catalogs for your private/semi-private, you must pay for it before we make an order. Uncollected costume fees are subject to a $5 monthly late fee. Note: Costume fee will include costume price, taxes, shipping and any return fees.
Although we try our best to keep our young dancer’s growing bodies in mind, please understand that all costumes are ordered from catalogs and may need some alterations upon arrival. It is the parent’s responsibility that the costume is ready by dress rehearsal. See the front desk to inquire about alteration needs for a small fee.
Also, costumes may not include shorts, leotards, tights or shoes. For your planning, these needs will be communicated as early as possible.
Competition entry and teacher fees are NOT included in the tuition of private/semi-private classes. If you would like to compete your private/semi-private at one or both of these competitions, the entry fee + $25 teacher fee must be paid for before we submit registration. Uncollected competition/teacher fees are subject to a $5 monthly late fee.
Throughout the 2017-2018 season, all students enrolled in recital classes will prepare dances for the dance recital in May. This is a very exciting time for the students as they learn the discipline of being a dance performer and have the opportunity to perform on real stage. Every dancer is responsible for remembering their dance and working as a team with their classmates. Weekly attendance is very important, especially in the months leading up to recital.
In addition to the recital itself, there will be dress rehearsal the week prior to the show where each class will have an opportunity to practice on stage with lights, music and costumes.
The students work very hard throughout the year to prepare incredible performances. We ask that parents be as supportive as possible during this process by volunteering their time during recital week to help our show run as smoothly as possible. Free recital tickets will be offered in exchanged for volunteer service.
If you wish to drop a class, please contact the front desk. Missed classes are non-refundable.
