Ballet I – Ballet I is an hour-long recital class designed for students ages 9-13. Students will focus on proper ballet posture, developing turnout, and building their ballet vocabulary. Students are strongly encouraged to take 1-3 additional classes, especially Junior Modern/Progressions.
Barre – Barre is the warm-up ballet technique class that is required for students in Ballet II-V, the competition team, and several recital classes denoted with an *.
Ballet II – Ballet II is an hour-long recital class designed for students ages 11-14. Students will focus on muscle building in the legs and ankles to prepare them for pointe work. Students are required to take Monday Barre. Students are strongly encouraged to take 1-3 additional classes, especially additional Barre and Junior Modern/Progressions.
Ballet III – Ballet III is an hour-long recital class designed for students who are working at an advanced level. Students focus on complex combinations as well as basic pointe work. Students are required to take 2 Barre classes each week (Wednesday + another). Some students will be asked to take Ballet II and III together. Students are expected to also take 2-4 additional classes.
Ballet IV – Beginning/Intermediate Pointe – Ballet IV is an hour-long recital class designed for students who are in their first three years of pointework. Pointe students are required to take a minimum of 3 Barre classes each week, and are strongly encouraged to take Saturday Pointe. Ballet IV students will likely be asked to take Ballet III or V as well.
Ballet V – Intermediate/Advanced Pointe – Ballet V is an hour-long recital class designed for students who are in at least their second year of pointework. Pointe students are required to take a minimum of 3 Barre classes each week, and are strongly encouraged to take Saturday Pointe, Ballet III and Ballet IV.
Pointe Evaluations: Students will be evaluated in their ballet classes the first week of class, the first week after New Year’s and the last week of class.
Imagine Dancers (3-5) – Imagine Dancers is a great introduction to dance. The students practice a wide variety of disciplines, including ballet, jazz, hip-hop and acro.
Ballet-Combo Classes (4-9) – Students under the age of 9 should all enroll in one of our combo classes. These classes are the precursor to Ballet I.
Progressions – Progressions is a class that develops jazz dance technique (stretch, leaps, turns), as well as development of style and the ability to improvise.
Modern – Modern is a class that develops contemporary dance technique (floor work, posture control, movement quality), as well as awareness of the body’s skeletal and muscular systems.
Improv/Choreo – Each week in this class, students will be taught a piece of choreography, to practice quickly learning dances of various styles. Other weeks, students will practice improvisational techniques. This class is designed specifically for students 11+ who are interested in taking master classes or attending conventions.
Beginning Acro – In this class, students ages 7+ will learn beginning gymnastic skills such as somersalts, bridges, cartwheels, round-offs, handstands and walkovers. This class is great for building strength for other dance styles.
Intermediate/Advanced Acro – In this class, students will perfect beginning gymnastic skills, as well as learn more advanced skills such as walkovers, handsprings, aerials, tucks and more. Dancers must be placed in this class by the instructor. Min. Age is 7.
Advanced Contemporary Ballet – Students who dance 4-5 days at The Dance Company Conservatory will be invited to take this bi-weekly class. This class is designed to supplement and further challenge students who are already in class 12+ hours each week.
